PROMETHEUS: Searching for the meaning of life.

...Then GOD said, "Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us." ~ Genesis 1

"Accept the way GOD does things, for who can straighten what HE hath made crooked?"
          ~Ecclesiastes 7:13

"Big things have small beginnings."  ~From the movie, PROMETHEUS.

"What we hoped to achieve was to meet our makers.  To get answers.  Why they made us in the
first place."

"As a spaceship departs an Earth-like world, a humanoid alien drinks a dark liquid, then starts to disintegrate.  The aliens' remains cascade into a waterfall.  His DNA breaks down & recombine, seeding Earth with the building blocks of life."

Since the beginning, man has been on a quest to learn about himself and the universe.  Does GOD, CREATOR exist?  Or are we traveling on a predetermined path?

In the beginning of the movie, these questions are sought out by a team & crew of 17, ( one android David),  and two scientists/archaeologist;  Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, and Dr. Charlie Holloway.

On their final site & survey on earth, they find the last "artifact." Yet another star map in a cave.  In their investigations they interpret these findings.

Clues from former cultures for us, (the future) in order for us, (the present), to understand our link to our past.  AND-- they assume an "invitation" from whom they refer to as "Engineers."

WHOM may have been the original humans.

They travel in hibernation, (except for David), to a remote planet, an alien world; in an attempt to discover the "Meaning of Life" in the Scientific Exploratory Vessel,  "The Prometheus," in  the year 2093.

Just as curious about the meaning of life, is their benefactor, an elderly Peter Wayland funds the expedition to a distant moon at light speed.

Wayland's only reason for funding this mission is because he "does not want to die."  He's 101 and in terrible health.
Albeit, he does want to understand the meaning of life... but only to lengthen his own, hoping the aliens would consider this.

Spoken like a true billionaire industrialist.

His daughter also travels on this "escapade" loathing it and the thought that her father is wasting their money searching for a miracle on some godforsaken rock.

As she puts it so eloquently to him: "A king has his reign, and then he dies.  It's inevitable.  That's the natural order of things."
Yeah, she's right...  And "Long live the queen," I'm sure she was thinking. A ominous expression for the daughter in the end.

As enthused about the findings and mission, Dr. Charlie Holloway seems a little disturbed by David's presents.  Every so often he subtly bullies and throws innuendos at him.

Eventually, David gets even.

Odd.???  A synthetic human with emotions?   Scary.

                                                                        "David"

In their last conversation, David approaches Charlie and asks him what they hoped to achieve.
"What we hoped to achieve was to meet our makers to get answers.  Why they even made us in the first place."

David replies:  "Why do you think your people made me?"  Charlie: "We made you because we could."
(stupid choice of words I think).

And David's cool, calm ass reply:  "Can you imagine how disappointing it would be for you to hear the same thing from your creator?"

 Lol--Amen.

Eventually, Charlie & everyone else ends up dead, except for Dr. Shaw & David.  Although when awaking the engineer from his hyper sleep he separates David's head from his body.

"Opps upside your head!"

Finally in the end of the movie, Dr. Shaw and David, along with David's head and body,  launches another one of the Engineer spacecraft.

Her goal: To reach the Engineer's homeworld in an attempt to understand why they wanted to destroy humanity in the first place.

Ummmmm....Kinda sounds like Noah and the Ark and GOD's reason to end mankind.

                                                                      To Start Over

And so it is, mankind has yet another chance to start over; a new way of reshaping his destiny.

After all, living forever isn't just about forward time.  Forever is in infinite, in both directions.

All in all, the quest, the search for the meaning of life, akin to the beginning of life, will forever be
a Mystery of Mysteries.

                                                               "I AM WHAT I AM."

                                                                   ~Exodus 3:14

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.
It is the source of all true art and science." ~ Albert Einstein.

And so it is.  ~LJAS
